Baseball playoffs

Following weeks of scheduled games getting played out, the rain started to fall the day before, and the day, of the start of the Â鶹´«Ã½AV East Baseball League (SESBL) games, forcing at least one rainout.

'Dogs lose in final

The Yorkton Bulldogs played in the PGLL playoff tournament over the weekend and made it to the 'B' side final. Yorkton lost their first game, 10-7 against the Regina Rifles, beat the Saskatoon Steelers, 11-5 before falling in the 'B' final.

Cup parade planned

Updates have come in as to the agenda for the Stanley Cup parade for Jarret Stoll of the Los Angeles Kings. On Aug. 16 he and his family will be bringing the Stanley Cup to Yorkton for a parade.

Orioles dominate at Hudson Bay

The Yorkton Orioles played five games at a tournament in Hudson Bay July 6-8 Twenty teams participated. In their first game, they beat Lanigan by a score of 5-1.

Local runner qualifies for Hershey meet

Drew Kirk of Langenburg, SK has a very exciting summer ahead of him. Drew has qualified, in the 800 m, for the Hershey Track and Field North American Finals in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The meet takes place on Aug. 4.

Playoff chances getting smaller

The woes of the 2012 edition of the Yorkton Cardinals of the Western Major Baseball League continue. The Cardinals (as of Monday noon) have won only twice in their last 10-games, and sit mired in the WMBL East Division basement 17.

Football players wanted for fall

Anyone in the Yorkton area who is interested in participating in a senior men's football league in the fall is asked to please contact Darcy Zaharia. Players must be 18 years of age or old and be able to play from late August to October.

The Richardson Pee Wee AAA Cardinals were within a whisker of sending a big game into extra innings. Tyler Stratechuk stepped up to the plate in the bottom of their last chance inning with his team trailing by three runs.
