The woes of the 2012 edition of the Yorkton Cardinals of the Western Major Baseball League continue.
The Cardinals (as of Monday noon) have won only twice in their last 10-games, and sit mired in the WMBL East Division basement 17.5 games back of the Regina Red Sox who 26-8 record and .765 winning percentage is tops in the league.
The Cardinals are also six games behind third place Weyburn who hold down the division's final playoff spot. The Beavers are 11.5 back of Regina.
Melville is second in the Division, 7.5 games back of the Red Sox.
In terms of action this week, the Cardinals were to host Swift Current Monday, but drizzle postponed the game until Tuesday where it was to be part of a two-night doubleheader. Results of those games were not available in time for press time.
The Cardinals did play Sunday, a day the team will not soon forget, but will wish they could. The Cardinals traveled south for a two city doubleheader, starting with an early game in Moose Jaw.
The Miller Express managed only nine hits, but when coupled with six walks from Cardinal pitching, and three Yorkton fielding errors, they turned those hits into 10 runs.
Meanwhile Dustin Caplette went the distance for Moose Jaw scattering six hits and allowing only one Cardinal run in the 10-1 contest.
Yorkton should have been looking for redemption in Regina that evening, but they did not find it.
In fact things got worse.
Yorkton did manage 10 hits off five Red Sox pitchers, but plated only one run.
Meanwhile Regina had eight hits, and scored nine runs in just two innings off Cardinal starter Corey Thompson.
The Sox would add six more runs off Yorkton relievers for a 15-1 win.
Things were not much better earlier in the week either for the Cardinals.
Friday the Cardinals kept things close at Pirie Field in Melville, but still dropped a 5-4 decision to the rival Millionaires.
Yorkton trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth but tied it with a pair, adding two more in the seventh, as Melville responded with single runs in the same two innings.
The game went to the ninth deadlocked at 4-4, but the home team would score on an error to conclude the 5-4 win.
Thursday the Cardinals played a critical game in their pursuit of Weyburn for the final playoff spot in the Division, visiting the Beavers.
While Yorkton's offence managed seven runs, they still lost 10-7, as four Cardinal pitchers combined to allow 12 hits.
Logan Hershenow took the loss as Yorkton's starter.
Francis Rodriquez and Brett Smith each had two runs batted in for Yorkton in the loss.
Last Wednesday the Millionaires were scheduled to play at Jubilee Park in the city, but the game was postponed due to rain.

The Cardinals head to Saskatoon to play tonight (Wednesday), and stay for a game Thursday against the Yellowjackets.
Medicine Hat rolls into Jubilee Park for action in Yorkton Saturday, and Sunday. It is a 2:05 p.m. start time Sunday.
The Yellowjackets then offer opposition at Jubilee Park Monday, with Yorkton off to Regina Tuesday.
