The closure of the Port of Churchill, Man. was shocking, but not unexpected, nor unlikely. Canada’s sole northern port has limped along, basically, forever. Yet that does not mean it should be closed for good and abandoned.

‘Re-’ can be a prefix meaning ‘again’ or ‘back to.’ There is also one municipality and a small village in Norway named Re, so therefore if you have already visited either one of the villages of Re and you are going back, then you will reRe.

There is a rich rural heritage to the Canadian Prairies, one that I worry will increasingly be lost and forgotten.

I find it interesting that even though we now live in an era where security cameras and cellphones can monitor every public move, bad behaviour and criminal activity have seemingly not been deterred.

The 2016-17 school year is to begin for teachers on August 29 and for students regular cases will begin on September 1. There are two new members who will join the Preeceville School staff and one new member at the Sturgis Composite High School.

Rural representation took a hit in Premier Brad Wall’s cabinet shuffle. One might argue this doesn’t mean much.

The Preeceville and District Health Action Committee has been formed within our community for the permanent and ongoing needs for Doctor recruitment and retention.

The Sturgis Station House Museum will be hosting a cultural day featuring Joseph Naytowhow on September 12.

The Sturgis Composite High School graduating class of 1966 met for a classic school reunion on the weekend of July 16 and 17.
