Sturgis places second in home volleyball tournament

The Sturgis Composite High School junior boys volleyball team hosted a six-team tournament on September 16 and 17. The other five teams were from Norquay, Invermay, Wadena, Sacred Heart in Yorkton and Melville Composite High School.

            The Sturgis Composite High School junior boys volleyball team hosted a six-team tournament on September 16 and 17.

            The other five teams were from Norquay, Invermay, Wadena, Sacred Heart in Yorkton and Melville Composite High School.

            “In round robin standings, the Sturgis and Norway teams come out in first place with a recorded 4-1," said Kipp Bayer. Melville Comprehensive came out in third place with a 3-2 record. Invermay was in fourth with a 3-2 record. Sacred Heart had a 1-4 record and Wadena came out last with a  0-5 record.

            In the round robin play, Sturgis defeated Norquay 20-25, 25-16 and 15-11. Sturgis defeated Sacred Heart 25-17 and 25-13, and then lost to Invermay 15-25 and 19-25. Sturgis defeated Wadena 25-13, 14-25 and 16-14 and Sturgis defeated Melville 25-11 and 25-10.

            In the semifinals, Sturgis defeated Invermay 25-15 and 25-19 and Norquay defeated Melville Comprehensive.

            Sturgis was defeated by Norquay in the final with final scores of 26-24, 23-25 and 15-10.
