Kamsack district residents have another reason to cheer during the 2018 Olympic Games being played at PyeongChang, 麻豆传媒AV Korea, February 9 to 25: a member of Cote First Nation is on the Canadian women鈥檚 hockey team.

Eleven teams were entered in the Sturgis open bonspiel held from January 15-21. The team of Craig Folk with team members Jason Peterson, Kipp Bayer and Nick Bodnar won the A event of the bonspiel.

The Canora Senior Bonspiel, held from January 15-18 at the Sylvia Fedoruk Centre, saw Canora teams take first and second place in the final standings. A total of 17 teams took part in the friendly competition, said organizer Vern Schick.

The Preeceville Skating Arena was alive with hockey players and their families from communities across the Major Hockey League.

Trevor Robinson, a former Canora resident now living in Calgary, was thrilled and proud to find out on January 11 that his son Mathew (Mat), a defenseman, has been named to the 2018 Canadian Olympic Men鈥檚 Hockey Team.

The Yorkton Terriers and the Melville Millionaires will be raising money for the Children鈥檚 Wish Foundation of Canada (CWFC) at their upcoming home games. The Millionaires will be hosting the Saskatchewan chapter of the CWFC on Jan.

The Mauler game scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Regina was postponed due to road conditions. The two teams did match up Saturday for a neutral site game in Balcarres.

It was two more games, two more losses for the Yorkton Terriers. The losses left the Terriers with a record of 8-29-2-1 for 19 points and the basement in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Viterra Division.

The Yorkton Kinsmen AA Midget Terriers rolled up an 8-1 win Saturday and 7-2 win Sunday at the Farrell Agencies Arena over the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.
