WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 82 calls for service during the period of Jan. 29 to Feb. 4, resulting in a total of 35 charges. Of the charges, 25 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, six under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and four under the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act (CDSA). Of the 25 criminal charges, 11 were in relation to individuals who either failed to comply with a condition of their release or failed to attend court when required to do so.
The Weyburn Police Service Criminal Investigation and Drug Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Weyburn Police Service patrol members, executed a CDSA Search Warrant on a residence in Weyburn on Friday, Feb. 2.
As a result, an adult female faces several charges including trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine, possession of a weapon, possession of the proceeds of crime, and several breaches of a release order. During the search, WPS officers located and seized 17.5 grams of methamphetamine and 5.5 grams of crack cocaine, along with other evidence of drug trafficking. WPS officers also located and seized $1,300 in cash and a long-barrel firearm. The approximate street value of the drugs seized is $2,500.
Just before noon on Thursday, the Weyburn Police Service responded to a commercial area bordering the city after receiving a call from a vehicle owner that reported an individual going through their vehicle. Officers attended immediately, located the suspect, and took him into custody. The adult male now faces several charges including theft, disguise with intent to commit a crime, possession of break-in instruments, three charges of possession of property obtained by crime, and two charges of failing to comply with a condition of his release. The male was remanded in custody for an upcoming court appearance.
A witness reported an erratic driver and provided a description of the vehicle on the evening of Jan. 31. An officer on patrol was nearby and located the suspect vehicle quickly. A traffic stop was conducted and the officer noticed indications of impairment. Further investigation resulted in the adult female driver being charged for impaired driving as well as two driving infractions under the TSA.
A witness reported a vehicle that appeared to have collided with a fence early Saturday afternoon. Officers attended and located the suspect vehicle with an adult male passed out in the driver’s seat and the vehicle still running. Further investigation resulted in the individual being charged with impaired driving as well as driving without a valid driver’s license.
The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
