SPHL championship to go to deciding game Thursday

THE BATTLEFORDS - The championship series in the Saskatchewan Prairie hockey league is going to a fifth and deciding game on Thursday night.

The Meota Combines and Turtleford Tigers are tied at 2-2 in the best-of-five championship series, after the results of the latest two games in the series this past weekend.

On Saturday, March 12 in North Battleford, Turtleford took a 2-1 series lead with a 6-4 win over the Combines. The Tigers got two goals from Garth Matvenko and one each from Trent MacNab, Austin McDonald, Karstin McDonald and Damien Nordell. Meota got goals from Calvin Koczka, Michael Pylypow, Brody Tatchell and Justin Waskewitch.

On Sunday, March 13 in Turtleford, the Combines stayed alive with a 5-2 win. Riley Albert had two goals in the win and they also got scores from Myles Baptiste, Kyle Gregoire, and Brody Tatchell. Adam Gray and Jayce Nordell scored for Turtleford.

Game time Thursday, March 17 at Access Communications Centre is 8:30 p.m.
