John Cairns

John Cairns, who originally hails from Saskatoon, is Â鶹´«Ã½AV.ca's reporter covering the Legislature and politics and other provincial issues. Prior to moving to Regina, he has been based in the Battlefords since 2008, reporting for the Battlefords Regional News-Optimist.
He is experienced in covering local, provincial and federal politics and elections, business and education. He has also covered major trials, including the Curt Dagenais trial in 2009 and the Gerald Stanley trial in 2018. Beyond hard news, he is just as comfortable interviewing big-name country music artists and sports figures, and covering hot dog eating contests. He has a keen interest in the entertainment industry and writes a regular column on movies called Cairns on Cinema.
