SPHL playoffs move to semifinals

Meota, Battleford, Turtleford and Radisson move on

Playoffs are on in the SPHL this month.

THE BATTLEFORDS - The first round of the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League playoffs is in the books and the matchups have been set for round two.

In the next round the Meota Combines take on the Radisson Wheatkings in one series, while Battleford takes on Turtleford in the other matchup.

Meota hosts Radisson in game one Friday, Feb. 18, at the Access Communications Centre in North Battleford, followed by game two in Radisson Feb. 19. Game three of the best-of-five series is back in North Battleford Feb. 24. Dates for Battleford versus Turtleford have not been announced as of yet.

This past weekend all four playoff series wrapped up in three-game series sweeps. 

On Saturday Meota eliminated Spiritwood with a 12-0 rout win at home. Five players on the Combines scored two goals each in the win including Riley Albert, Ty Anderson, Jayden Nachtegaele, Gavin Nolin and Boyd Wakelin.

In games Friday and Saturday, Radisson beat Maidstone 7-3 and 3-1. Ryan Rothenburger scored two goals and an assist in the clinching game.

Also on Friday and Saturday, Turtleford finished off the Perdue Pirates with 6-5 and 9-2 wins.

The Battleford Beaver Blues advanced with three wins on three successive days. They beat Maymont 11-4 on Friday, 15-4 in Maymont on Saturday and then 6-2 on Sunday at home to wrap the series up.
