WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 82 calls for service during the week of August 7 to 13, resulting in a total of 26 charges. Of the charges, 19 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and seven under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA). Of the 19 criminal charges, seven were in relation to individuals who either failed to appear in court as required or failed to comply with a condition of their release.
On Monday, an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle bearing a license plate that had been reported stolen. After speaking to the driver, it was discovered that someone had swapped out the proper plate for their vehicle with the stolen plate. The stolen plate was seized and the matter is being investigated further.
On Wednesday, officers located and seized a motorcycle that was reported stolen out of Regina. Further investigation resulted in an adult male facing a charge of trafficking stolen property, and another adult male facing a charge of possessing stolen property as well as failing to comply with a condition of his release.
On Thursday, two adult males were charged with theft and possession of stolen property following an investigation into the theft of tools and a fuel card from a vehicle. One of the males also faces a charge of failing to comply with a condition of his release.
Also on Thursday, a traffic stop resulted in an adult male being charged with driving while suspended, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
During the week, officers attended multiple locations to remove unwanted guests at the request of the property owner or manager. Late Thursday evening, officers attended a restaurant to assist removing a guest who was intoxicated and causing a disturbance; and also late Thursday evening, officers attended a residence at the request of the owner to assist removing an unwanted intoxicated male.
The Weyburn Police Service also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
