WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 81 calls for service during the week of March 27 to April 2, resulting in a total of 11 charges. Of the charges, seven were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, three under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). The majority of the criminal charges resulted from individuals that either failed to appear in court as required, or failed to comply with a condition of their release.
A couple incidents of theft occurred during the past week involving business storage areas. One business noticed several household items were removed from their utility trailer, and another business noticed their storage area was rummaged through. These incidents are currently under investigation.
The Weyburn Police Service requests anyone who may have knowledge, or may have recently noticed a suspicious vehicle or person, to contact the Weyburn police and help identify those responsible. With warmer weather on the horizon, there could be an increase in late-night “activity”.
On Friday, a late night traffic stop resulted in a driving suspension and vehicle impound for one driver. During patrol, an officer noticed a vehicle with a license plate that was obstructed and conducted a traffic stop. The adult male driver displayed signs of impairment and ultimately tested positive for the presence of cannabis. The driver received a three-day driver’s license suspension as well as a three-day vehicle impoundment.
Late Saturday afternoon, police responded to the report of an adult male who was standing on the street partially undressed. Officers located the individual who was found to be under the influence of drugs and took him into custody. The male faces charges of possessing a controlled substance as well as two charges of failing to comply with a condition of his release. The male was held in custody to appear in court.
Also on Saturday, the Weyburn Police received a call reporting an impaired driver at a local gas station. Officers responded and were able to locate the vehicle a short time later. The driver was uncooperative with police and was ultimately charged with refusing to comply with a demand to provide a sample of his breath suitable for analysis, as well as having his vehicle impounded for 60 days.
The Weyburn Police Service also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
