WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 65 calls for service during the period of Feb. 20-26, resulting in a total of 19 charges. Of the charges, seven were laid under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), eight under the Criminal Code of Canada, two under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and one each under the Cannabis Control Saskatchewan Act (CCSA) and the Vehicle Equipment Regulations (VER).
In the early morning hours of Saturday, an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle being driven erratically and conducted a traffic stop resulting in several charges. The adult male driver faces charges of impaired driving, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with a condition of his release, and driving without a valid driver’s license. An adult male passenger also faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
On Friday afternoon, police learned of a threat made against employees of a local business by a frustrated customer. To ensure their safety, officers attended the business and remained on scene until the business was closed and all employees had left.
On Wednesday morning, officers responded to a reported fire at a commercial location along East Avenue. Officers assisted the Weyburn Fire Department by controlling traffic in and around the area while fire personnel extinguished the fire and dissipated the heavy smoke.
On Tuesday, a traffic stop resulted in an adult female being arrested for outstanding warrants. The warrants were executed and the individual was released with an upcoming court date. Also on Tuesday, an adult female was charged for assaulting another adult female. The individual charged with assault also had outstanding warrants for her arrest, which were dealt with accordingly. The individual was released with an upcoming court date.
Late Friday night, an officer on patrol noticed an intoxicated adult male causing a disturbance in the downtown area as he was yelling loudly and acting aggressively. The individual was ultimately taken into custody and held overnight until he was sober and released without and any charges.
Officers also dealt with several domestic disputes and family related matters during the past week. All dealings of this nature were mediated or resolved without charges.
