WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 81 calls for service during the period of Dec. 5-11, resulting in a total of 10 charges. Of the charges, four were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and six under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA). The criminal code charges include two that resulted from individuals who failed to comply with a condition of their release. Warrants were also issued for three other individuals who failed to attend court as required.
A Sunday afternoon report of a stolen vehicle and a theft from a local business appear to be related. An employee reported to police that two individuals entered the business and walked out with several items without paying. The employee advised that the culprits got into vehicles with other occupants who were waiting outside the business.
Descriptions of two suspect vehicles were provided to the police and further investigation revealed the vehicles matched reports of vehicles that were reported as stolen; one from the Estevan area, and one from Weyburn that was reported by the owner shortly after the theft from the business was reported. These matters remain under investigation.
Being the holiday season, the Weyburn Police reminds everyone to enjoy their get-togethers with friends and family responsibly and always plan a safe way home. Traffic stops conducted by police this past week resulted in two drivers receiving a driving suspension and having their vehicle impounded after testing positive for the presence of cannabis. Another driver was charged for driving while suspended, and the slippery road conditions contributed to at least a couple collisions.
Officers responded to several requests by friends, family, or concerned individuals, to check on an individual’s well-being during the week. One of the well-being checks resulted in officers discovering an individual in need of medical attention. EMS personnel attended to the individual who was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital for further care.
Several incidents of assault were reported during the week. The incidents varied in nature and remain under investigation. One incident involved an individual who had an outstanding warrant for their arrest, and accordingly was arrested and released with an upcoming court date as requested by the agency holding the warrant.
