WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 73 calls for service during the period of Nov. 28 to Dec. 4, resulting in a total of 14 charges. Of the charges, nine were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, three under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one each under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act (AGRA) and the City of Weyburn bylaws.
Late Monday evening, officers responded to a report of an intoxicated individual inside a residence that was being aggressive, causing damage, and refusing to leave. Attending officers arrested an adult male who now faces charges of mischief to property and being unlawfully in a dwelling. The male was released when sober and has an upcoming court date.
Police also responded to another residence in response to a reported intoxicated family member causing a disturbance. After speaking to all involved, an adult male was arrested and taken into custody. The male was held overnight and released on conditions when he was sober. He faces charges of assault and uttering threats of harm.
An intoxicated individual who was being aggressive and causing a disturbance in a licensed establishment, and refused to leave when requested to do so by staff, was arrested and charged under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act for refusing to leave as requested. The adult male was also held in custody until he was sober.
Several matters during the week were traffic related, including one driver being charged with driving while suspended, another for driving while disqualified, and another who, after being observed using their cell phone while driving and failed to stop at a traffic signal, tested positive for the presence of cannabis and received a driver’s license suspension and had their vehicle impounded.
Further charges are also pending in relation to the latter incident as a quantity of a controlled substance was also located and seized from the vehicle. Two other traffic stops resulted in an adult male being arrested for failing to comply with a condition of his release, and an adult female who was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest.
