Estevan's health, safety and rescue capabilities took a positive step forward last Thursday when Estevan Fire Rescue Chief Rick Tocker and deputy Chief Dale Feser accepted a cheque from Enbridge Pipelines (Sask.) Inc.

The night of Jan. 8 proved to be a rather busy one for members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) beginning with a response to a report of a suspicious person being spotted around a residence in the northwest part of the city.

A fundraising social is being held in Radville on Saturday, Jan. 15, for a local two-year-old boy who was recently diagnosed with severe autism.

Estevan's population is continuing its upward trend. According to the 2010 covered population statistics, which were released in December by the provincial Ministry of Health, the Energy City has 12,876 residents, up from 11,304 in 2009.

The Rotary Club of Weyburn is searching for applicants to travel to England in the fall of 2011 for four weeks. The exchange is open to those who are non-Rotarians between the ages of 25 to 40. Selected candidates will travel from Oct. 1 to Oct.

City council unanimously rejected an application by the Weyburn Co-op to relocate the STC bus terminal to the Co-op's Food Store location, as council sided with a large group of area residents expressing their concerns for the proposal.

During the week of Jan. 2-9, Police Service members answered 87 calls for service. Many of them were alcohol related. On Jan. 2, police were called to a local apartment building to investigate possible narcotics usage.
