Weyburn police had a busy week including arresting a man who tried to escape them by jumping out a window.

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) responded to 83 calls for service during the week of July 11 to 17, resulting in a total of 12 charges, including a man who attempted to flee the police by jumping out of a window.

Of the charges, four were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, six under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and two under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act (AGRA).

Calls for service ranged from bylaw complaints to criminal code violations. A total of 17 calls related to bylaws, driving and liquor offences were dealt with by members of the WPS.

Mental Health calls for service amounted to 16 incidents. These varied from assistance to SHA facilities for uncooperative patients to emergency arrests under the Mental Health Act to have the individual assessed by a medical professional.

Criminal Code-related calls for service amounted to 17 in total for the week, and four charges were laid as a result.

An adult male known to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest was observed by members of the Weyburn Police Service at a residence on Third Avenue Â鶹´«Ã½AV on July 13 at approximately 5 p.m.

WPS members advised the male he was under arrest, at which time he jumped through a glass window and fled the residence. A search of the area with the assistance of Estevan’s Police Service dog Max and handler resulted in the male being apprehended hiding in a back yard.

He was arrested on the strength of the outstanding warrant as well as for resisting arrest. The male was detained in custody and will appear in court in the future.

A call was received by the WPS on July 15th around 8:30 p.m. from a resident indicating a female in a local business appeared to be intoxicated and was seen getting into a vehicle and driving away. WPS members located the vehicle and driver, and she was administered an Alcohol Screening Device test which she failed.

She was transported to the police station where she was administered a breath test resulting in a failure. She was charged with impaired driving and exceeding 80mg in her blood, and was released for a future court date.

The WPS would like to remind all residents that under the Property Maintenance and Nuisance Abatement Bylaw, no owner or occupant of land shall permit the property to be overgrown with grass or weeds. “Overgrown” means in excess of 20cm in height.

This includes front and back yards, boulevards, and back lanes. A fine up to $10,000 and, in the case of a continuing offence, to a further fine of up to $2,500 for each day during which the offence continues.
