WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 84 calls for service during the week of July 4 to 10, resulting in a total of 11 charges. Of the charges, eight were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, two under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act (AGRA).
Officers responded to a call for assistance at a local business on July 5. Officers attended and dealt with an adult male who was found to be in violation of his release conditions. The male resisted the police officers, and was subsequently charged for resisting arrest as well as failing to comply with the conditions of his release. The male was held in custody for an upcoming court appearance.
Officers responded to the report of an adult female believed to be in possession of a stolen bike on Wednesday. The female was arrested, charged with theft, and released with an upcoming court date. With a recent rash of bicycle thefts, the Weyburn Police encourage residents to ensure their bikes are locked up or stored somewhere secure when not in use.
On Thursday, a citizen noticed an adult male drinking an alcoholic beverage in a vehicle located outside a local establishment. Police attended to the location and dealt with a male who resisted the officers and was subsequently charged with resisting arrest. The male was held in custody for an upcoming court appearance.
Officers also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, excessive noise, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, and calls relating to animals or bylaw concerns.
