WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service responded to 80 calls for service during the week of March 7 to 13, resulting in a total of 13 charges. Of the charges, nine were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, three under the Traffic Safety Act, and one under the City of Weyburn bylaws.
The majority of criminal charges were a result of individuals failing to comply with a condition of their release or failing to appear in court as required.
Officers responded to a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke to both parties who indicated they were having a loud verbal discussion but not aggressive or physical in nature.
With the price of fuel increasing significantly, there has been a number of incidents involving “gas drive-offs”. Most fuel stations have quality surveillance of their pumps and property so culprits are very likely to be identified and held accountable. The Weyburn Police Service responds to these incidents of theft and criminal charges may result.
An adult male became aware that another police agency had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and attended the Weyburn Police Service to have it dealt with. The male was arrested on the warrant and released with an upcoming court date in the jurisdiction of the agency that held the warrant.
An individual reported multiple tires had been slashed on their vehicle on March 9. This matter is currently under investigation and is suspected to be personal in nature. Also on Wednesday, the Weyburn Police Service assisted the Weyburn Fire Department as they battled a large commercial vehicle fire by conducting traffic control around the scene.
Officers responded to a reported erratic driver on March 10. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the driver being charged with driving while disqualified and obstructing a police officer. The driver, an adult female, was also found to have outstanding warrants for their arrest and was dealt with accordingly.
Officers responded to a reported physical altercation between two males at a licensed establishment on March 12. The altercation was over and one of the involved males had left the scene prior to police arrival. This matter is being investigated further and charges may result.
An individual reported that they had been assaulted earlier that day by a person known to them on March 13. Officers obtained a statement from the individual and the matter is currently under investigation.
Weyburn Police officers responded to several other calls of a varying nature during the week.
