WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 76 calls for service during the week of Feb. 21 to 27, resulting in a total of 24 charges. Of the charges, four were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and 20 were laid under the Traffic Safety Act.
Police responded to a report of theft of gas from a local business on Feb. 21 at approximately 10:20 p.m. The theft was captured on surveillance video showing two males along with two female suspects driving a Ford truck. This incident is still under investigation and any information on the incident can be reported to the Weyburn Police Service.
A number of fraud incidents were reported to the WPS this past week. One incident was the result of an individual having his SIN used to obtain $5,000 worth of CERB payments. The second incident involved an elderly person trying to purchase Google Play cards in the amount of $700. A store employee contacted police as they were worried it was a possible scam. Police attended and ensured family members were notified, and no losses were sustained.
Weyburn Police and EMS personnel responded to a medical emergency on Feb. 22 at 3:30 p.m., involving an individual suspected to be experiencing a drug overdose. Police members administered a number of doses of Narcan to the person. After approximately 12-14 minutes the person was revived. The individual was assessed by EMS personnel and transported to the Weyburn General Hospital for further medical care.
Police were summoned to a local business on Feb. 26 shortly before 1 a.m. The reporting persons indicated they had a knife pulled on them by a suspect in the parking lot. Police located and arrested the suspect a short distance away. The individual was released on an appearance notice for a future court date.
Officers responded to several other calls of a varying nature during the week including alarms, noise complaints, domestic disturbances, mental health concerns, and requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing. No charges resulted from any calls of this nature.
