CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 27 calls from Nov. 30 to Dec. 6, some of which included:
- one assault,
- one assault with a weapon,
- one break-and-enter,
- one Coroners Act call,
- two harassing communications,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- three mischiefs,
- three other provincial calls,
- four traffic collisions,
- seven traffic offenses and
- one prisoner.
Not a hockey fan?
On Nov. 30, neighbourhood kids were playing hockey on a street in Preeceville when the puck rolled into a yard. The property owner contacted the Canora/Sturgis RCMP to report a youth coming onto this property to retrieve the puck.
Police spoke with the caller and resolved the matter without further investigation being required.
Break-in and damage
Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a break-and-enter on Dec. 1 to an outbuilding on Whitesand Drive in Canora. The doors were pried open and items were removed from the buildings and broken outside. Police continue to investigate.
Disturbance with firearm
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance complaint in the RM of Buchanan on Dec. 2. Police located and questioned a woman in relation to the disturbance.
During the investigation, the woman was found in possession of an unsecured firearm. Police continue to investigate.
Block heater cord damaged
On Dec. 2, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a call where a block heater cord had been ripped out of the caller’s truck while it was parked outside his residence. Police were unable to determine if the block heater cord was intentionally damaged.
Phantom assault
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an assault complaint on Dec. 3. The caller advised a text message was received that a female was being assaulted inside a residence in Canora. Police investigated the assault and determined the victim was not in Canora and no assault was committed.
Assault and arrest
On Dec. 4, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated an assault. A man was charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault. The man was released on conditions not to have contact with the victim.
