Canora RCMP: Looking for source of explosions near Stenen

Police were unable to locate the origin of the loud explosion in the Stenen area on Dec. 8. Previous loud explosion noises have also been reported in the area.

Police also dealt with a knife night, damaged to a RCMP vehicle and a trespasser.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 31 calls from Dec. 7 to Dec. 14, some of which included:

  • one assault with a weapon,
  • one Coroners Act call,
  • one criminal harassment,
  • one Explosives Act call,
  • one failure to comply with conditions,
  • one identity fraud,
  • three mischiefs,
  • one other provincial call,
  • three traffic collisions,
  • 15 traffic offenses,
  • two uttering threats, and
  • one wellbeing check

Mysterious explosions

On Dec. 8, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a loud explosion in the Stenen area.

Police were unable to locate the origin of the explosion. Previous loud explosion noises have also been reported in the area.

Knife fight

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Dec. 9 to a weapons complaint in Canora. 

Police learned two women were arguing and one of the women sustained an injury to her hand from a knife.

A 35-year-old woman from Canora was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon.

RCMP vehicle damage

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a mischief to an RCMP vehicle on Dec. 9.

The windshield of a Ford Explorer police vehicle was damaged while parked behind the Canora RCMP Detachment. 

Trespasser warned

On Dec. 10, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated numerous complaints of a man trespassing through yards in Canora.

Police located the man and warned him for his behaviour.

Whose voices?

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Dec. 11 to a complaint of voices being heard outside a residence in Canora.

Police patrolled the area and were unable to locate the source of the voices.

Unsafe passer pays price

A semi truck with trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 9 by Ebenezer on Dec. 12 when it started to turn west onto a grid road. A northbound SUV passed on the left and struck the semi, causing the SUV to roll into the ditch.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate.
