Play day fun for students of Weyburn's Legacy Park Elementary

The K-6 students of Legacy Park Elementary School had their play days on Thursday and Friday, with a variety of games and relay races set up around the school yard. The students were broken up into teams, with the full range of grades on each team, and they circulated between game stations through the morning, and then had a school swim in the afternoon.

CIty of Weyburn public works, emergency services hold open house

The City of Weyburn's public works department, along with the police and fire departments, held an open house on Wednesday in the public works yard. City equipment and their workers were on site for people to see, along with police vehicles and equipment, and fire trucks and a display of fire equipment. In addition, the City had a free barbecue for residents, and police dog Oakley and fire dog Jessi were on hand to greet young visitors.

Grade 8 class does mural by Weyburn Art Gallery of student design

The Grade 8 class from St. Michael School worked on painting a mural in the hallway outside of the Weyburn Art Gallery in the Credit Union Spark Centre on Wednesday afternoon. The design was the winning entry from Haroun, as the class had entered the contest put on by the Weyburn Arts Council, and the prize was for the class to paint the mural at the Spark Centre. The design will include the word "Welcome" in English and 25 other languages, all around a smiling setting sun.

Weyburn Soccer hosts 40 teams for weekend tournament

The Weyburn Soccer Association hosted 40 teams for a two-day soccer tournament at Jubilee Park over the weekend, with teams from Saskatoon, Regina, Swift Current, Moose Jaw and Yorkton along with Weyburn teams. The players ranged in age from U9 to U17, with games all day Saturday and Sunday.

Hundreds take in displays, vehicles at Weyburn Car Show

Downtown Weyburn was packed with vintage, classic and antique cars, trucks and motorcycles for the Weyburn Car Show on Saturday, along with vendors and fundraiser barbecues for non-profit organizations. The weather was perfect for the show, with the Walk of Fame induction ceremony in the afternoon, held by the City of Weyburn, honouring medal-winning Curt Minard.

Preparing Grade 6 students for Grade 7 band in September

Grade 6 students at Legacy Park and Assiniboia Park schools were given the opportunity to prepare for band in Grade 7, as they first heard a concert by Weyburn Comp's senior band on Wednesday. On Friday, the Grade 6 students got to try out the instruments as they tried to decide which instruments to play in September. WCS band teacher Brayden Jensen brought Grade 9 band students along to help out.

The Tiger Talent showcase was put on by St. Michael students last week, with a wide variety of talent on display on the stage. The acts included singing, dancing, playing guitar or piano, a demonstration of dog training, and even riding a unicycle.

Weyburn's Class of 2023 parade through city for grad

The Class of 2023 from the Weyburn Comprehensive School took part in a parade through the city's downtown on a warm Saturday afternoon, following the outdoor ceremonies held at Darold Kot Field. After the parade, the Grand March and dance was held in the evening in the Cugnet Centre.

The Weyburn Comprehensive School's graduation ceremonies were held on Saturday morning under cloudless blue skies and moderate temperatures, with hundreds of parents, friends and relatives filling the grounds of Darold Kot Field for the ceremonies. Ryan Fowler gave his last address as principal of WCS, and the valedictorian was George Hoffman. There were tributes to parents and teachers, with responses, and the Graduation Choir sang two songs before the tossing of the mortar boards at the end.
