WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service have issued a warrant for a man following a violent domestic assault over the weekend.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, an adult female contacted police reporting a violent assault that occurred to herself during the previous several hours. The female had fled her residence where the assault occurred and contacted police from a local gas station.
Police attended immediately and located the female. Police called EMS to attend who examined the female on scene and transported her to the Weyburn General Hospital for further treatment.
The female suffered significant injuries but not life threatening. An adult male suspect was nowhere to be found but a warrant for his arrest has been authorized. The male faces several criminal charges including forcible confinement, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, mischief to property, and three counts of failing to comply with a condition of his release.
Over the course of the week of July 18-24, the Weyburn Police Service responded to 75 calls for service, resulting in a total of 27 charges.
Of the charges, 16 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, nine under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one charge each under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act (AGRA) and the Vehicle Equipment Regulations (VER).
Of the 16 criminal code charges, seven resulted from individuals who failed to comply with a condition of their release.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute on Monday involving threats of violence. Upon arrival, officers found an irate adult male who was involved in an altercation with two adult females. The male was uncooperative with police and was ultimately arrested and charged with two counts of assault as well as two counts of failing to comply with a condition of his release. The male was released with an upcoming court date.
On mid-afternoon Wednesday, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Sixth Street NE. Both vehicles required towing but the occupants were fortunate as no major injuries resulted. One of the drivers faces a charge under the TSA for disobeying a stop sign.
Officers also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, excessive noise, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, and calls relating to animals or bylaw concerns.
