Another super sports Saturday

Athletes in Macklin, Unity and Wilkie are part of a super sports Saturday, March 12

UNITY - It was another super sports Saturday for area teams. The following are the results known from March 12.

In an article on SASKTODAY.ca, McLurg graduate Kabri Sittler captured a silver medal in Can-West USports championship. (See related stories below)

HOCKEY:

The U9 Unity black Lazers team won the A final of the league championship.

U11 Unity Lazers captured the B side of their league championship.

The U15 Lazers left it all on the ice in the provincial northern final. The team had won their way to the north final only to tie the series with Nipawin sending them on the road in a must-win game to advance them to the provincial final. In the manner they had experienced through all of their provincial series, it was a close back and forth game, however, the team went down 6-5, thus ending their provincial hopes. The U15 Lazers now focus on the league title, playing Eston.

The Macklin Mohawks were able to defeat the Edam 3 Stars in the final game of the semifinal series and will now square off against the Wilkie Outlaws March 13 at home in game one of the Sask. West Hockey league final. The Hawks will have had no rest heading into the final while Wilkie has had a good chunk of time to rest before the series begins.

BASKETBALL:

Sask. High School Athletics Association conference basketball took place across the province March 12.  Results that are known include both Unity Composite High School's senior boys' and senior girls' teams both capturing conference titles, as well as the McLurg girls. The wins send the teams to regional championships March 19, with hopes to earn a provincial Hoopla berth.
