KINDERSLEY- The Kindersley Clippers got their first win of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season in overtime Saturday.

It was at the expense of the Battlefords North Stars. The Klippers won 5 to 4 on an overtime goal by Ethan Mack at the 2:39 mark in overtime at the West Central Events Centre in Kindersley. Mark Snarr and Jaxon Georget got the assists on the game-winning goal.

It was a disappointing ending for the North Stars, who had taken a 2-0 lead in the first period on two goals by Emmett Wurst.

But Kindersley chipped away throughout the game to erase the early deficit and eventually take the lead. Charles Obobaifo got the Klippers on the board in the first period and then Noah Lindsay tied it at 1:41 of the second.

Sam Witt’s goal from Holden Doell put the Stars back in front through two periods. The second period saw a rash of roughing penalties as the rough play from the previous night’s game continued. Matthew Henry of the North Stars and Ethan Hilbig of the Klippers took major fighting and game misconduct penalties.

Kindersley took the lead in the third with goals from Georget and then Cash Arntsen. Doell’s first of the season just seconds afterwards at 9:29 tied the game up again, and it stayed tied until Kindersley’s game winner in overtime.
