BATTLEFORD - Battleford council voted on Monday to approve a COVID-19 vaccination policy for the town of Battleford.
According to Battleford CAO Ash Alam, this policy covers staff, volunteers and contractors of the Town. This policy also covers Town-appointed board members.
According to Alam, the policy will require them to show proof of vaccination within a set amount of time until the end of November, with two doses required by the end of December. For those who do not get vaccinated, they must provide reasons for an exemption.
This policy was written according to Saskatchewan Health Authority and Human Rights regulations, as well as Ministry of Labour Relations workplace safety regulations.
At their meeting Monday, council members made it known they were in favor of bringing the policy in.
“I believe that we need something in place and we’re moving forward, and that’s a positive,” said Councillor David George.
Councillor Judy Pruden said she also supported the policy, saying they needed “something with teeth in it so we can move forward.”
Mayor Ames Leslie also supported the policy, noting “we need to move forward to keep our community and facilities safe.”
The policy passed unanimously.
