People who enjoy arts and crafts will love Dimensions, the only open, juried exhibition of fine craft in Saskatchewan which is running from July 1 through to July 20 at the Chapel Gallery.
Every spring the Saskatchewan Craft Council invites all artists to submit two pieces of their work to be judged and potentially displayed in an exhibition.
The jurors chose 35 works by 33 craftspeople this year based on the theme "Playing" where crafty people put a lot of thought in adding dimensions to their playful works of art.
The piece with the best interpretation of this theme was Zane Wilcox's Element 2.1. It was a hand formed and carved piece of stoneware inviting the viewer to 'play' with their own visual perception.
Zane Wilcox, Cathryn Miller, Anita Rocamora, Jack Sures, Charley Farrero, Trent Watts, Lee Brady, Sharron Schoenfeld, Paula Cooley, Jane A. Evans, Daryal Richardson, Paul Lapointe, Judy Tryon, Michael Hosaluk and Howard Nixon all won awards for their pieces of art.
There were 94 craftspeople who submitted their work this year, with a total of 148 entries for consideration.
The non-profit organization, SCC, was formed in 1975 in hopes of enhancing and promoting the craft community.
They serve the public with many programs including gallery and touring fine craft exhibitions, workshops, conferences and publications.
The success of Dimensions relies on the support of a number of organizations including the Saskatchewan Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport, and the Town of Battleford.
