The Wilkie Midgets were crowned champions of the third annual Unity Midgets hockey tournament. Two Wilkie players picked up individual awards: Harry Cey, leading scorer, and Rick Sander, best defenceman.
The Delta Co-op Service Station in Unity received an Excellence Award from Federated Co-operatives Limited “in recognition of their high standard of service to the motoring public.” Staff at the service station included Bob Stabler, Bob Morrisons, Peter Keonig, Bob Gemmel, Frank Keller and manager Mat Wildeman.
Wilkie Figure Skating Club Carnival Queen contestants were Bonny Hoffart, Faye Rowatt and Glenda Weber.

Wilkie’s Citizen of the Year was Doris Bachman. Bachman was an active member of the Wilkie Legion, as well as being involved with the CWL and the curling club. She helped deliver meals on wheels and regularly visited shut-ins.
Trent Cey was named Wilkie’s Junior Citizen of the Year. Cey was active in the student council at McLurg High School, captain of the volleyball team, played on the Wilkie Midgets hockey team, officiated at minor hockey and Senior Outlaw games, and contributed a weekly column to The Wilkie Press.
Unity’s Crystal Gilbert was on stage at Telemiracle 29, singing Celine Dion’s I’m Alive and presenting an $8,000 donation on behalf of the community.
At FCL’s 76th annual meeting, Sandy Richards of Unity was elected to the FCL board of directors to represent 13 co-operatives in the province’s northwest stretching from Saskatoon to Macklin and as far north as Turtleford.
