HUMBOLDT – The Horizon school board met on Feb. 26 and approved the 2025-26 school calendar.
“We are pleased to provide a school year calendar that supports the success of our students, staff and school communities. We deeply appreciate the collaboration of the Horizon Teachers’ Association, CUPE, school community councils and our staff, and thank everyone involved for their support,” said Kevin C. Garinger, director of education.
Key dates and initiatives for the upcoming academic year:
- First day of classes: Sept. 2, 2025.
- Non-instructional days: Four non-instructional days are designated for staff development and curriculum planning, in accordance with the Local Implementation and Negotiation Committee (LINC) agreement.
- Instructional time: The 960 hours of instructional time per year exceed the legislated requirement, ensuring more learning opportunities for students.
- Daily instructional time: Remains at 325 minutes.
- Departmental exams: Dates set by the Ministry of Education.
- Report card pick-up: Scheduled for the last Friday in June.
The Horizon calendar also includes:
- Horizon Teachers’ Association convention – one day;
- Collaborative learning – two days;
- Learning improvement plan development – one day;
- Personal professional days – five days; and
- Horizon Celebration Day – one day.

The Horizon School Division also discussed capital project submissions. Horizon's major capital submissions will include:
- Watrous Schools Consolidation (K-12);
- Wakaw School new build; and
- LeRoy School new build.
Minor capital projects will include:
- Muenster School renovation and addition; and
- Foam Lake Composite School renovation.
