Harvest close to being wrapped up

The high daytime temperatures are unusual for this time of year. Sunday the temperature was 30 C. It is good for harvest, which will be close to being finished by the end of this week.

The benefit evening for Karen Scott and Earl Wallace was enjoyed by all who attended. The evening began with a potluck supper. The silent auction had many interesting items donated by community members.

Lance Weisner was the lucky winner of the 50/50 draw. Denai Smart won the food hamper and donated it to Karen and Earl.

During the evening, on behalf of the Waseca Quilt Club and Lloydminster's Fabricland, Arleen Lumgair and Bev Hult presented two quilts to Karen and Earl. The quilts were made during the regular Wednesday quilting sessions.

Arlee Lumgair, Curtis Sutherland and Sandra Sutherland attended a CN Rail emergency safety presentation at North Battleford Fire Hall Saturday morning. The presentation consisted of a video and speakers. The group found the presentation interesting and informative. The information will be incorporated into Waseca's emergency plan and will cover any possible emergencies.

Many Waseca students took part in the volleyball tournament held in Maidstone Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Among those taking part were Danielle Hult, Beth and Ann Nerbas and Chase James.

Among the young people home to help with harvest on the weekend was Cougen Pegg, who is attending Olds Agricultural College. She was assisting with combining and baling with the Oddan family.

Did you know "deltiology," collecting post cards, is claimed to be the third largest collecting hobby? It comes next only to collecting stamps and coins.
