The Chapel Gallery is proud to host "Field Day" - an exhibition of the work of Augustus Kenderdine. The collection of 19 landscape pieces includes works using watercolour, oil and charcoal. Kenderdine was born in England, studied art in Paris and came to Canada as a homesteader in the Lashburn area in 1908. He worked his grain farm in the summers and worked on his art in the winters. He later became a lecturer in art at the University of Saskatchewan.
The pieces in the "Field Day" exhibition focus on the landscape of northern Saskatchewan. Kenderdine created a retreat for artists at Emma Lake with the support of the University of Saskatchewan in 1936. This area was a continual inspiration for Kenderdine and his body of work reflected his love for the landscape. This exhibition shows his attention to detail and ability to capture the raw emotional impact of the untouched landscape.
