NORTH BATTLEFORD - A North Battleford teacher has announced his intentions to seek the nomination for the NDP in the next provincial election.

Tom Kroczynski, a teacher at Bready Elementary School, has announced he is seeking to run for The Battlefords NDP in the next election.

His Facebook page, “Vote Tom Kroczynski”, is now up, and news of his candidacy was shared on Facebook in a post from his wife, music teacher and performer Jackie Kroczynski.

“Well, besides being an awesome husband, Dad and teacher, Tom Kroczynski is embarking on a new adventure. Tom is seeking the candidacy for The Battlefords NDP!!!,” she posted. “We are both really excited about this! Off we go to 2024!”

Whoever wins the NDP nomination will be taking on Saskatchewan Party MLA Jeremy Cockrill, who was recently appointed Education Minister by Premier Scott Moe.

Back in July, Cockrill was nominated by acclamation to run for the Sask Party for a second term in The Battlefords.

“I’d like to thank the great people of The Battlefords for their continued support,” Cockrill said in a statement at the time. “I look forward to being your candidate in 2024, as we work to grow our province and create more opportunities for everyone.”

The Battlefords has had a reputation in provincial elections as being a “swing” constituency held by several political parties over the years. But in the last three provincial elections the seat has solidly gone for the Sask Party. In the 2020 election, Cockrill defeated NDP nominee Amber Stewart by a margin of 2,546 votes.
