REGINA - The provincial New Democrats have their candidate in place for the Regina Walsh Acres byelection.

Jared Clarke won a contested nomination race on Monday evening in Regina. He is a teacher in the Regina Public School system and a biologist actively volunteering in the community. He has been a board member for the Friends of Wascana Marsh and field trip coordinator for Nature Regina.

“I am so honoured to have earned the support of the many residents of Walsh Acres that came out tonight. I intend to immediately get to work earning the votes of the people of Walsh Acres,” said Clarke in a news release. “The time is now to listen to educators and parents about the state of our schools. Saskatchewan was once a nation-leader in education, health care, and the economy, and together we can do that again.”

“I am overjoyed to have an experienced leader like Jared as our candidate in this by-election,” said Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck in a statement. “He gets the issues keeping his neighbours up at night and it’s obvious that he’s ready to hit the ground running. With his background and strong history of community leadership, I know that Regina Walsh Acres will be very well-served with Jared as their MLA.”

Clarke will face Nevin Markwart of the Saskatchewan Party in the Walsh Acres by-election, which could be called any day. The seat was vacated this spring with the passing of Sask Party MLA Derek Meyers.

With the latest nomination on Monday, the NDP now have their candidates in place in all three of the vacant seats due to see byelections held this summer. Other candidates for the NDP include Noor Burki in Regina Coronation Park and Kaitlyn Stadnyk in Lumsden-Morse.
