WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service received 93 calls for service during the period of August 21 through August 27. Seventeen charges were laid during this period – the majority related to Traffic Safety Act offences.
On August 21, a business reported a theft of copper from its compound sometime the night prior. The matter remains under investigation.
On August 22, Weyburn Police received a report of a stolen truck, which occurred within the two prior days. The vehicle is a brown 1997 GMC Sierra pick-up truck with last displayed Saskatchewan license plate of 494 KCS.
On August 23, Weyburn Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after the Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) indicated a person associated to the vehicle was subject of a province wide driver’s license suspension issued for previous impaired driving charges. The driver provided police a false name; however, through police investigation, the driver was identified, arrested, and charged with obstruction of a police officer and driving while suspended.
Later in the evening, police received report of a hit and run collision. Initially, the suspect stopped but left the scene without exchanging information when the complainant made a call to police. Police continue to investigate.
The evening of August 25, Police received a RID (Report Impaired Driver’s) complaint. Police located the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was not impaired.
Throughout the week, police conducted numerous targeted crime preventions activities, with focus on traffic enforcement and property crime.
