WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 83 calls for service during the period of Oct. 16 to 22, resulting in a total of 14 charges. Of the charges, nine were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, four under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act (AGRA). Of the nine criminal charges, only one was in relation to an individual who either failed to attend court as required, or failed to comply with a condition of their release.
Police dealt with several driving concerns and complaints during the week. A two-vehicle collision at a four-way intersection on Thursday resulted in a passenger being examined for minor injuries, and one of the vehicles needed to be towed from the scene. A charge may result pending further investigation.
On Monday, a traffic stop resulted in the driver receiving a 60-day driver’s license suspension and a three-day vehicle impoundment after providing a sample of his breath in the approved screening device.
On Thursday, a traffic stop resulted in the driver being charged with driving while prohibited, which also involved the vehicle being impounded.
Early Friday morning, a traffic stop conducted on a reported erratic driver resulted in the driver being charged for impaired driving as well as unlawfully having open alcohol in the vehicle. The driver in this matter was arrested and released with an upcoming court date.
Also on Friday, a traffic stop conducted on another reported erratic driver resulted in the driver being charged with driving while disqualified. The driver was also warned for having a young occupant that was not properly secured.
The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
