WEYBURN – A masked individual entered the 7-Eleven store located on the east side of Weyburn at 4:26 a.m. on Sept. 26.
The masked individual confronted the store employee and demanded money while holding a knife. The masked individual also indicated that they had a gun.
The employee complied with the demand and the masked individual left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. The employee contacted the Weyburn Police Service and officers responded immediately.
In relation to the incident, the Weyburn Police Service currently has one individual in custody. The RCMP K-9 unit was contacted and attended to assist with the incident, which remains under investigation.
Prior to this incident, the Weyburn Police Service responded to 86 calls for service during the period of Sept. 18 to 24, resulting in a total of 13 charges. Of the charges, seven were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and six under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA). Of the seven criminal charges, five were in relation to individuals who either failed to attend court as required, or failed to comply with a condition of their release.
During the week, the Weyburn Police Service has received several calls regarding stolen bikes and mischief to property. The police encourage residents who witness or have knowledge relating to these incidents to contact the police and help identify those responsible. Some incidents of mischief include construction sites, which causes delays and cost implications to the work being done.
An adult male faces a charge of failing to comply with a probation order after officers found him in breach of his order while doing a compliance check.
Officers responding to a disturbance between several individuals at a convenience store witnessed an adult male chasing a vehicle that was attempting to flee the area. The male was heavily intoxicated and had an altercation with the occupants of the vehicle while inside the store. The male faces charges of resisting arrest and failing to comply with a probation order.
Officers responded to a two-vehicle collision involving minor injuries. EMS and fire personnel also responded and both vehicles required towing from the scene. Statements were obtained from both parties and charges are pending.
An early morning traffic stop conducted by officers on Saturday resulted in an adult male facing several charges including driving without a valid license, operating an unregistered vehicle, displaying a plate that was not registered to the vehicle, and failing to comply with a probation order as well as a condition of his release. The male was also found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
A similar traffic stop in the early morning hours of Sunday also resulted in an adult male facing several charges including driving while prohibited, operating an unregistered vehicle, and failing to comply with a probation order.
The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
