Preeceville and area residents continue their quest to save the Preeceville Hospital from having the doors if its emergency and acute care departments closed on June 1.

Preeceville School students in grades 4 to 8 rose to the challenge of public speaking in front of a panel of judges, teachers, peers and parents in an oratory competition on May 27. Oratory refers to the art of public speaking, it was explained.

Sixteen Sturgis Elementary School students celebrated a milestone with a graduation ceremony on May 20.

A special flag was raised May 28 to promote tourism awareness and Tourism Week in Preeceville on May 31 to June 6. Mayor Harris was assisted by Elaine Simpson in raising the flag.

The Sturgis Station House museum was opened to the public on May 20 when an opening day tea was held. Gerald Stecuik provided the musical entertainment for the tea. Sarah Brown was hired as the curator for the season.

The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum officially opened on May 25 with an open house.
