Female Ice Hawks take first place heading into playoffs

Team cinches top standing as league action moves into playoff mode.

OUTLOOK - The Outlook Mainline Ice Hawks have put in the work and hope to see the benefits as attention turns to hockey playoffs now that the regular season has wrapped up.

The team ended their regular season on a high note over the weekend at home, where they welcomed the Â鶹´«Ã½AVwest CMX Impact on Thursday, February 27, followed by a game against the Regina Junior Rebels on Saturday, March 1.

On Thursday, the Impact had their work cut out for them in the Jim Kook Rec Plex as Outlook seemed driven to take a commanding lead, which they eventually did as the action played out.

In the first period, things moved back and forth between the rosters as far as momentum went, but in the final three minutes, Hawks #21 Haley Braun scored her first of three goals in this game.

The second period saw Outlook return to the goal-scoring ways, with #21 Braun scoring again at 18:34, followed up by #16 Keeley Martens nabbing a goal at 9:39.

The third period saw the Hawks really fire up the gameplay and nothing could stop them, with #27 Jessica Bouffard scoring at 10:27, followed by #6 Taylor Grimeau-Nolan scoring one just 87 seconds later. Outlook #21 Braun nabbed her third goal at 5:44, followed up by #27 Bouffard scoring the final goal of this game with just five seconds remaining, ensuring that the Hawks left the ice with the 7-0 victory.

On Saturday night, the Rebels came to town and the end result was another Ice Hawks win, but the action was slowed down quite a bit as compared to Thursday evening.

The first period saw neither team score any goals as both rosters were feeling each other out, while the second period saw Outlook rack up three goals, made by #22 Teanna Crossman at 16:16, #8 Samantha Jensen at 15:00, and #21 Haley Braun at the 13:57 mark on the clock. The third period was a repeat of the first one, with no goals scored by either bench, meaning Outlook would leave the ice the winners at a score of 3-0.

The win slots the Ice Hawks into first place as teams get ready for playoffs, with games for the league's Bourgault Cup Championship expected to start on March 7 and go until the 22nd. Outlook hosted the first-ever championship game last season, which saw Saskatoon defeat Regina at a score of 5-0 to claim the trophy.

A playoff game schedule was expected to be available online this week at www.sjfhl.com.
