OUTLOOK - The writing, storytelling and creative decisions being made in Outlook may just pay off at the offices of the local newspaper, with yearly awards set to be handed out later this spring.

The Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association (SWNA) holds an annual ranking event among news publications around the province, entitled the Better Newspapers Competition. This event puts a spotlight on the best and brightest from around the province in a flurry of different categories, showcasing the work being done by journalists, columnists, guest writers, photographers, editors and publishers.

This year, The Outlook newspaper finds itself in the running for eight (8) awards in total.

The newspaper itself is in the running for Best Editorial Page (Class B) and Best Special Section (Fire Prevention Week).

Staff writer Shelley Luedtke is up for Columnist of the Year for her weekly column of 'My Outlook', Best Business Writing for her story looking at the history of Outlook's longtime newspaper, and her name actually appears twice in the category of Best Health/Healthcare Coverage.

Journalist, columnist and photographer Derek Ruttle of Â鶹´«Ã½AV.ca, whose work still appears weekly in the pages of The Outlook, is up for the awards of Salute to Veterans/Armed Forces Coverage, Best Feature Story, and Best News Story of the Year, all centering on his story on the late Bud Hardy, a young Outlook man who was killed in the Ukraine amidst the warring conflict with Russia, and whose brother Will sat down with Ruttle to discuss the life of his departed sibling.

The winners of this year's BNC awards will be revealed on Thursday, May 8.

Congratulations to all of this year's award nominees!
