YORKTON -
Pride Week is being marked in Yorkton with a number of activities planned.
Pride Week activities have become an annual occurrence in the city, said local event organizer Margo Allaire.
“2017 was our first Pride Walk in Yorkton,” they said.
While COVID did limit activities the last couple of years, this year there are several events planned.
* Monday is Paint Night at Blue Drip Art Supplies from 7- 9 p.m.
* Tuesday is Tie Dye at Park Shaw Park 1- 3 p.m.
* Wednesday ‘Planting Pride’ will be held at the Land Titles Building 7- 9 p.m.
Allaire said the program Wednesday is an important one as it will focus on how to be a “good ally” to the LGBTIQA+ community. The speaker for the event will be Andrew Matheson with Humboldt Pride and the Saskatchewan Pride Network.
* Thursday there will be a movie matinee and poster making at the Tower Theatre 1- 4 p.m.
Allaire said it is great to have the Tower Theatre involved.
“It’s a new partnership . . . Building these partnership in the community are really important,” they said.
* Friday there will Drag Queen Story Time at Coles, another new event partner, in the Parkland Mall from 1 – 2 p.m.
* Pride Happy Hour will be held at Tapps at 7 p.m. Saturday
* The Pride Parade is set for Saturday with marshalling at Shaw Park starting at 11 a.m. and a 12 noon start time.
* Don't Be a Drag Yorkton Drag Show Extravaganza will wrap up the week at the Land Titles Building with doors open at 7 p.m. and the show set for 8 p.m.
