YORKTON - A display entitled ‘Through the Years: Ertl, Fordson and Ford-Ferguson was of this weekend’s 65th Threshermen’s Show and Seniors’ Festival in Yorkton.
Ford is best-known as an automobile maker having launched the famed Model T in 1908.
But the company also made tractors, starting in 1917 with the Fordson.
The tractor became a quick success, in-part because of World War One, when the British Ministry of Munitions ordered 6,000 units for the war effort before production had started. Ford was able to deliver 250 in 1917, shipping the rest to Britain in 1918, according to the static display at the weekend show.
In total 34,167 Fordsons were manufactured in 1918.
In 1919 the first Fordsons were manufactured at a plant in Cork, Ireland.
The weekend event was an effort of the Western Development Museum - Yorkton, the Yorkton Threshermen’s Club, the East Central Seniors’, and the Yorkton Antique Auto Association.
