KAMSACK — Due to increased costs having come to light, the Town of Kamsack will borrow more to pay for the Broda Sportsplex renovation project.

Originally, council passed a bylaw to allow it to borrow $1.5 million. During a June council meeting, it repealed that bylaw and then introduced, gave three readings to, and adopted a new bylaw allowing it to borrow $2 million for the project.

After council was told that additional investigations by Johnson Controls indicated that insulation should be replaced on roof areas of the Broda Sportsplex for a cost of $361,000 to $499,000 over and above the original project cost, it was agreed that council was not prepared to make further budget changes. The roofing is to remain as was specified in the original contract.

Work began during the first part of May and is expected to be completed by November in time for the beginning of the Sportsplex’s winter schedule. Grade beam work was done and then weeping tile will be placed in the ground prior to the addition of insulation and the concrete floors on both arenas. New roofing and siding are also to be placed on the building, which will ultimately look similar to the building’s current appearance.
