Jennie Emond of Preeceville has a passion for flowers and gardening finding the activity as not only very therapeutic for her, but knowing that flowers offer an added community attraction.

Planting flowers and a huge garden have been her passion for the past 30 years and gardening has been central for her enjoyment 鈥 as well as for the neighbours and community.

鈥淚 love to plant numerous varieties of flowers that compliment each other in a colour theme,鈥 said Emond. 鈥淚n my retirement years it has been a source of enjoyment and therapy for me. It started out as a small project but grew to encompass my entire backyard. I had some fruit trees in the yard and wanted a border around them so I could cut grass.

Once the trees had been cut down I had to work at filling the void. The border theme worked well and I decided to expand the yard with more borders. Petunias are my favourite plant but I usually plant a variety from perennials to annuals.鈥

Jennie was born and raised in Preeceville but left home at a young age to travel to Toronto in 1956. She worked at various jobs and married Ernie Emond. When they retired, they made the move back to Preeceville in 1983.

鈥淚 have had a few predators that I have had to battle, including everything from deer to dogs but I have learnt how to outsmart them,鈥 Emond said.
