INVERMAY - With a pair of medals and several top ten finishes, Invermay School student athletes had “a great weekend” at track-and-field provincials in Saskatoon and have much to look forward to in the future, according to Coach Kent Seerey.
At provincials on June 7-8, Aron Cudal led the way with a gold medal in senior boys javelin, and added a silver in long jump. Cudal also placed 23rd in the 100m and was a member of the senior boys 4x100m relay team that placed fourth.
“A 6.48 long jump was a personal best for Aron,” said Seerey. “Aron surpassed his fellow ECDAA Yorkton Regional long jumper who jumped farther than him at districts by just .03m. Aron then dominated the javelin event and threw a personal best of 47.95m into a 50-60km/h crosswind. Aron ended his Provincial track career with the Sr Boys 4 X 100 relay team, earning a 4th place finish with a time of 45.16s.”
Rachel Enge finishes up her provincial track career with a seventh place throw of 30.11 in senior girls javelin.
Angelo Ferenal finished 25th in the 100m intermediate boys hurdles at his first SHSAA provincial track appearance.
“The javelin did not seem to want to co-operate with Cassidy Bosovich on Saturday but we are very proud of her for advancing to the provincial track meet and gaining the experience that will become very valuable to her in the future. Cassidy was bantam aged but we decided to move her into the intermediate category so she could have a chance to attend provincials. Next year she will compete in the intermediate category again.
Bailey Maier placed 11th in senior girls high jump by clearing 1.40m in her third appearance in provincials.
In senior boys shot put, Lance Corpuz placed 25th with a throw of 10.11m.
“Lance is a Grade 11 student this year and competed against many Grade 12s,” said Seerey. Next year, Lance will be one of the older students in the senior category, so we’re looking forward to see how he ranks next year.”
Seerey said he was pleased with the performance of Invermay athletes at provincials in less than ideal conditions.
“Athletes battled through the wind and put forth their best effort. It was great to have a couple of Grade 9s attend as it prepares them for years to come. I’m really happy for our Grade 12s to finish in the top 10 at the end of their career and for Aron to win two medals in his last year is absolutely amazing; very happy for him! I am extremely proud of all six athletes for making it to the provincial level. Coming from a K-12 school of only 84 students, it shows the grit and determination of these six athletes.”
