CANORA - The Grade 12 students of Canora Composite have begun fundraising for their upcoming graduation ceremony in June of 2024. The class started off with selling meals and baked goods from In Good Taste out of Togo. Grade 12 students sold items to friends, family, and community members. In late November, they started a similar fundraiser, but this time by selling poinsettias, just in time for Christmas!
Another event the grads will be hosting is an upcoming bottle drive. The bottle drive will be held on Jan. 3, 2024. If residents are interested in having the 2024 Grads coming around to pick up bottles, the class is asking everyone to make sure all bottles are in bags and sitting at the end of your driveways before 11 a.m. on Jan. 3. All bottle donations will go toward funding the upcoming graduation in the summer of 2024. The class has also opened a Sarcan Drop-N-Go campaign where people can donate their bottles by going to Sarcan themselves. The Drop-N-Go will be open under the name ‘Grad 24’ until June of 2024.

Priest Attacked In Nebraska
A Catholic priest has died in a small Nebraska community after being attacked in a church rectory. According to CTV News, the incident happened on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023. According to the CTV News article, “The Rev. Stephen Gutgsell was assaulted during an invasion at the rectory of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.”
The Archdiocese of Omaha said in a Sunday statement the priest was taken to an Omaha hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. Fort Calhoun, which has a population of about 1,000 people, is roughly 20 miles (32 kilometres) north of Omaha.
In a statement from Washington County Sheriff Mike Robinson, “Police received a 911 call of an attempted break-in at the church just after 5 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Gutgsell injured and an alleged attacker inside.”
The suspect was taken into custody by police. The investigation is ongoing.
