Sturgis graduation ceremony held in the park

Sturgis graduates end an era but begin a new chapter.

STURGIS - Sturgis Composite School acknowledged its Grade 12 graduates in a special graduation ceremony held at the Sturgis Park on June 28.

Graduates were surrounded by family and close friends as they celebrated their achievements at the park.

Members of the 2023 graduation class were: Tate Bayer, Trina Correos, Kourtney Gregory, Chaz Jaeb, Kaiden Masley, Wyatt Mastrachuk, Skylar Ryczak and Ciara Soltys.

Kelsey Newman and Kristen Peterson, teachers at the Sturgis Composite School, had the honor of introducing each graduate after they arrived by vehicle prior to being escorted by their parents to the stage area.

Tate Bayer was escorted by his parents, Kipp and Jennifer Bayer, and will be attending the University of Saskatchewan to attain a geology degree.

Trina Correos was escorted by her parents Maribel and Bimbert, and plans to study at the U of S to become a doctor.

Kourtney Gregory was escorted by her parents Erin Gregory and Sheldon Johannesson. She plans to attend the University of Regina to obtain a bachelor of social work degree.

Chaz Jaeb was escorted by his parents Wes and Heather Jaeb and his future plans are to play hockey in Golden, B.C.

Kaiden Masley was escorted by his parents Kelly and Amanda Masley. He is enrolled in Sask Polytech to attain a 3rd class power engineering certificate.

Wyatt Mastrachuk was escorted by his parents Colin and Jodi, and will be moving to Saskatoon to become an industrial mechanic with the goal of eventually taking over the family farm.

Skylar Ryczak was escorted by his parents Derek and Kim Ryczak and plans to attend Sask Polytech in the field of power engineering.

Ciara Soltys was escorted by her parents Levi and Marina. Her future involves attending postsecondary school to become a pharmacy technician.

To kick of the graduation exercises program, Graduate Trina Correos sang O Canada.

Graduate Kaiden Masley was the master of ceremonies for the evening.

Chris Balyski, the board trustee for the Good Spirit School Division, brought greetings from the board.

“You have shown dedication, resilience and a passion for learning,” said Balyski. “As you embark on the next chapter of your lives, remember it doesn’t matter what you say, it only matters what you do. Growing up in the community of Sturgis has given you unique experiences and taught you the value of community. The bonds you have formed and the relationships you have nurtured will be a source of strength and support as you step into the world. Embrace your roots, cherish your memories and never forget the invaluable lessons you have learned. As you move forward, remember that the education and experiences you gained at Sturgis Composite have prepared you to face any challenges that comes your way. Be confident, be courageous, and continue to learn and grow,” concluded Balyski.

Kristen Peterson and Kelsey Newman presented the graduation scrolls, followed by Nathan Seghers giving a fun roast to the graduates.

Chaz Jaeb gave the thank you to his fellow graduates.

Wyatt Mastrachuk gave the thank you to the teachers with a reply from Kelsey Newman, teacher.

Skylar Ryczak gave the thank you to the parents followed by the reply by his mom, Kim.

Tate Bayer and Ciara Soltys presented the Remember When memories of the graduation class.

Nathan Hrynchyshyn was the guest speaker for the evening.

Trina Correos gave the valedictorian address.

Kristen Peterson and Kelsey Newman presented the awards and scholarship portion of the program.

The graduation ceremony concluded with a grand march, and an escort and parent dance.
