PREECEVILLE - The Preeceville School honoured 13 graduates in a ceremony at the Preeceville Community Legion Hall that featured presentation of scrolls and scholarship awards on June 16.
Graduates were escorted to the stage area by their parents.
Members of the 2023 graduating class were: Mason Bilan, Calan Hort, Kestin Gerbo Javelona, Julianne Johnson, Brady Kashuba, Isaac Kashuba, Isaiah Maier, Mardy McLaughlin, Mia Mitchell, Hudsyn Nelson, Rajat Pandey, Zachary Sorgen and Summer Stroeder..
The program kicked off with the introduction of each graduate and their parents, who escorted them to the stage area.
Brady Kashuba, escorted by his parents Murray and Rachael, was born Oct. 18, 2005 in Calgary. After high school Brady has been accepted into the University of Saskatchewan’s Edward’s School of Business where he plans to get his bachelor of commerce degree and eventually go to Law school. While studying and working on his degree, Brady plans to continue his hockey career at the junior level.
Mason Bilan, escorted by his parents Trevor and Colleen Bilan, was born Oct. 2, 2005. Mason plans to continue working and to take over his grandfather’s farm.
Calan Hort, escorted by his parents Corey and Carla Hort, was born on Sept. 5, 2005, in Yorkton. Calan is undecided as to what he wants to do after completing high school. His future plan in the meantime is to seek employment and help out at the family’s auto body shop.
Kestin Gerbo Javelona, escorted by his parents Kervin and Girly Javelona, was born Dec. 10, 2005 in Digos, Philippines. At the age of four, he and his family moved to Canada, living in Preeceville from then on. After high school, Gerbo is planning to take the Primary Care Paramedic Course in Regina.
Julianne Johnson, escorted by her parents Joni Shingoose and Greg Johnson, was born Jan. 23, 2005. During the last year, Julianne has spent her time getting her Emergency Medical Responder Certificate and other prerequisites so she can pursue a career in paramedicine in the upcoming years.
Isaac Kashuba was born on May 10, 2004 and was escorted by his parents, Rachael and Murray Kashuba. Isaac plans on moving to Saskatoon this fall in order to study business at the University of Saskatchewan. Isaac is a hard worker and is excited to reach his future goals.
Isaiah Maier was born on July 31, 2005 in Yorkton. He was escorted by his parents, Nathan and Megan Maier. Isaiah will be taking a gap year next year as he is undecided on what he wants to do going forward.
Mardy McLaughlin, born on Aug. 21, 2005, was escorted by his parents Dave and Grace McLaughlin. After graduation, Mardy plans to move to Saskatoon to take a year off school to work before applying to the University of Saskatchewan for the combined kinesiology/education program.
Mia Mitchell, escorted by her parents Colin and Belinda Mitchell, was born Jan. 23, 2005. In the fall, Mia plans to attend the University of Saskatchewan, having been accepted into the bachelor of science in kinesiology program, where she plans to further her education to become a physiotherapist.
Hudsyn Nelson, born July 16, 2005, was escorted by his parents Jesse and Shannon Nelson. Hudsyn is ready to take his career to the next level. With his impressive track record and drive to succeed, Hudsyn is sure to excel in this new chapter of his life.
Rajat Pandey, born Sept. 12, 2005 was escorted by his parents Rajesh and Aman Pandey. Rajat was born and raised in India and, in 2019, came to Canada with his parents and started high school in Brampton, Ont. Rajat has been accepted by the University of Regina in the College of Arts and Science and plans to become a psychologist.
Zachary Sorgen, born Feb. 7, 2005,was escorted by his parents Dwight and Edna Sorgen. In the coming fall, Zach plans to go to Millar College of the Bible, near Swift Current, where he will spend at least one year studying the Bible and growing in his understanding of how he should live as a Christian based on what he learns.
Summer Stroeder, born June 18, 2005, was escorted by her parents, Murray and Coralea Stroeder. After graduation, Summer plans on taking a year off to work and then applying to University of Regina and University of Saskatoon in hopes of becoming a social worker.
Sheila Klebeck was the guest speaker and Isaac Kashuba was the graduating class valedictorian.
Chris Balyski gave the Good Spirit School Division Board address.
“As we gather here, I am reminded of an inspiration quote that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Preeceville School and its surroundings. In small town, you grow up together, not just in age but in knowledge and wisdom,” said Balyski.
“Graduates, as you prepare to leave the familiar halls of the Preeceville School, always remember that you carry with you the values and lessons leaned here. Use the education you have received as a tool to empower yourselves and those around you. Be the change makers, the innovators and the leaders that our world needs,” he concluded.
Doug King, principal, was assisted by Leslea Hanson, vice-principal and Mark Forsythe, Superintendent of School Operations for GSSD, presented the graduation scrolls.
The program concluded with a grand march of graduates and their escorts.
