CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls from May 23 to May 30, some of which included:
- one 911 Act call,
- one assault,
- one assault with a weapon,
- one breach of peace,
- one break and enter,
- two criminal harassments,
- two disturbing the peace calls,
- one Explosives Act call,
- one false alarm,
- two Fire Prevention Act calls,
- one fraud,
- two operation while impaired,
- three mischiefs,
- three other provincial calls,
- one roadside suspension,
- three thefts of bicycles,
- eight traffic offenses,
- one traffic collision,
- one Trespass Act call,
- one uttering threats,
- one wellbeing check and
- three prisoners.
Scout camp damage
Between May 22 and May 23, unknown person(s) damaged building doors and windows at the Good Spirit Scout Camp. Canora/Sturgis RCMP is requesting assistance to identify those responsible. If you have information about this or any other crime, please contact the RCMP.
Impaired driver suspended
On May 23, Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a vehicle in Canora. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol and provided a breath sample into an alcohol screening device. The driver blew a warning and was issued a 72-hour driving suspension. The vehicle was also impounded for three days.
Assault charge
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on May 24 to an assault complaint in Canora. Police investigated and learned a woman had given the middle finger to another woman who grabbed a mace-style object and used it as a weapon in a threatening manner. A 54-year-old woman from Canora was charged with assault with a weapon. There were no injuries from the incident.
Crypto fraud
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call all about a crypto currency fraud on May 24. Crypto frauds and investment scams are being reported more frequently. Beware of unsolicited requests encouraging you to open and fund new crypto accounts. They will direct you to wallets controlled by criminals. Be careful when sending cryptocurrency. Once the transaction is completed you will be unable to recall it. Research carefully before making a crypto investment. Choose a reputable service. Call leads to charges
On May 26, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated an impaired driving call in Canora. Police located the vehicle in a parking lot and located three intoxicated men inside. The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was charged with failure or refusal to comply with alcohol demand, impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a probation order. The vehicle was seized for 60 days and a driving suspension was issued to the driver.
Overactive imagination?
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded on May 26 to a report that six short red sticks were sticking out of the ground in Canora that resembled dynamite. Police determined there was no danger and the suspected dynamite were ground cables.
Bold bike theft
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a bike theft in Canora on May 29. A grey, red, and white Super Cycle Nitrous eight speed bike, was stolen from a backyard. A man was observed walking away with the bike. The man is described as having a darker complexion, wearing a red hat, red hoodie, dark coloured sweat pants, and had a black bushy beard and eyebrows.
