Canora RCMP: Man tries to break into a house with a screwdriver

On May 10, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on May 10 to a 911 call in Buchanan. The caller reported a man had a screwdriver and was trying to break into a house.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP dealt with a vehicle theft and an arrest at a traffic stop.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 31 calls from May 9 to May 15, some of which included:

  • one 911 Act call,
  • one assault with a weapon,
  • two breach of peace calls,
  • one break and enter,
  • one Child Welfare Act call,
  • one criminal harassment,
  • one false alarm,
  • one Fire Prevention Act call,
  • two frauds,
  • two mischiefs,
  • two other provincial calls,
  • one taking motor vehicle without consent,
  • 13 traffic offenses,
  • one traffic collision, and
  • one Trespass Act call.

One too many

On May 9, a vehicle stopped outside the Canora RCMP Detachment. The driver requested assistance with removing an intoxicated passenger from the vehicle. Police assisted and took the man home.

Screwy arrest

On May 10, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on May 10 to a 911 call in Buchanan. The caller reported a man had a screwdriver and was trying to break into a house. Police attended and located the man inside the garage. The man was intoxicated and in possession of a case of beer. He was arrested and charged with break and enter. The man was known to the property owner.

Canora/Kamsack teamwork

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report of a vehicle theft in Canora on May 12. The vehicle was located by the Kamsack RCMP. A 22-year-old man from Canora has been charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent and is scheduled to appear in Canora Provincial Court on June 6.

Traffic stop arrest

On May 14, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP conducted a traffic stop in Canora and arrested the male passenger in the vehicle. The man was wanted by the Kamsack RCMP for failing to comply with his probation order and had been evading police.
