REGINA - The Regina Humane Society (RHS) is celebrating the first-year anniversary of the new Animal Community Centre (ACC).

On Saturday, Feb. 15, the RHS is inviting the public to attend the ACC’s First Birthday PAW-ty, which will happen between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at 4900 Parliament Avenue.

Residents can participate in facility tours, activities designed for a whole family, sweet treats to mark the occasion, writing letters to animals waiting to find a forever home and giving furry friends a special treat.

Lisa Koch, Executive Director of RHS, said, "The Regina Humane Society Animal Community Centre has been a dream come true for our organization and the animals we serve. Over the past year, we’ve seen incredible transformations, from healing neglected and abused animals to heartwarming adoptions."

Regarding adoptions, during the event, the RHS is reducing adoption fees for canines to $75 CAD for puppies and $25 for adult dogs.

Included in the adoptions are vaccinations, a tattoo, spray/neuter surgery, a microchip and a post-adoption veterinary exam.

The impact of the ACC has been positive for the RHS operations. RHS saw an 11 per cent increase in adoptions alone in 2024.

Additionally, the ACC improved air circulation and capabilities helped the RHS reduce the rate of diarrhea in dogs by around 70 per cent, which is the most common type of contagious disease in dogs at the shelter. Also, Feline Upper Respiratory Infections saw a 65 per cent drop from 2023.

There has also been an eagerness for the community to help with animals, as the number of volunteers with the RHS increased by 90 per cent.

With Saturday’s celebration, the RHS said, "it’s an opportunity to honour the impact made possible by the kindness and generosity of Regina residents and to look forward to many more success stories."
